City pool topic of meeting

Ironton city council members will have a special meeting at 7 p.m. today to consider a plan to open the city's swimming pool for the summer.

The special meeting was called due to the late addition of a resolution to award a management contract to Ron Reed, dba R Squared, to manage the pool.

The expected opening of the city's Mitch Morgan Municipal Swimming Pool was delayed recently when the previous management organization was unable to secure liability insurance.

The proposed contract stipulates that, once made operational for the season, the pool would be open 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Fridays, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays and noon to 6 p.m. Sundays.

Daily admission prices would be no more than $3 for adults, $2 for students and $1 for children under age 4.

Also, at tonight's special meeting, the city council will hear a resolution allowing the mayor to enter into an agreement allowing two summer youth workers to work up to 25 hours per week for the city's recreation department. The program, through the Workforce Development Resource Center, will not cost the city anything, Mayor John Elam said.
