Three people will likely face charges in connection with recent vandalism at Lake Vesuvius.

Lawrence County Sheriff Tim Sexton said he is seeking charges against Amanda Lunsford, 23, of Ashland, Ky., John A. Larson, 24, of 1529 S. Third Street, Ironton, and Jana Turley, 21, of Depot Street, Coal Grove.

Sexton said the case has been turned over to the Lawrence County Prosecutor's Office and he expects charges to be filed this week.

Sexton thanked people who gave information anonymously that helped lead to the charges against the three people. He also commended detective Shane Hanshaw for his work on the case.

In April, Wayne National Forest officials alerted authorities that someone had spray-painted graffiti and names across several rocks and the wooden boardwalk beneath the Rock House.

Wayne National Forest Public Affairs Officer Gary Miller welcomed the news. "I appreciate the sheriff's office for going out and pursuing this," Miller said.

"If in fact these are the guilty parties, I'm glad to see charges brought against them. I hope it deters others. That's the goal here. We have something wonderful here (in the WNF) and we hate to see it defaced like that."
