A former Lawrence County Sheriff's deputy will serve
four years community controlled sanctions under intensive supervised probation after signing a bill of
information this week in regards to a charge of gross sexual imposition.
The incidents took place last week at the Lawrence County Jail.
According to a judgment entry filed with the Lawrence County Clerk of Courts Office, on or about June 11, Paul L. Roach allegedly had "sexual contact" with a male inmate, "having purposefully compelled" the other person "to submit by force or threat of force."
Should Roach violate the terms of his CCS/ISP, he could be sent to prison for
17 months. Further, Roach must now register as a sex offender.
Lawrence County Sheriff Tim Sexton said Roach was hired by his office in 1994. He declined to comment on the matter except to say that he is "disappointed with the whole incident." Sexton said his office handled the matter swiftly once it was brought to the attention of supervisors at the jail.
