Auditor of State Betty Montgomery released an audit reporting findings for recovery, or money that is owed, earlier this month against the Village of South Point.

However, it will only cost the village $172 to clear up the misunderstanding.

The report stated that the village was unaware that court costs for individuals who are found guilty of any offense other than a traffic offense that is not a moving violation changed from $11 to $15.

House Bill 95 raised the costs in September of 2003, but the Mayor's court was unaware of this and did not increase the fees. In that time period, the court had 43 cases where only $11 was collected, so the village owes the state $172.
