PORTSMOUTH — Would anyone actually volunteer to go to jail? What if that jail had access to restaurant quality food? Better yet, what if the jail was located in a restaurant and the whole stay was for a good cause?

Sound ludicrous? In the famous words of college football analyst Lee Corso, “Not so fast my friend.”

Emily Uldrich, brewer at the Portsmouth Brewing Company, has accepted the challenge of raising money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. She has to raise $2,500 by April 25.

If she doesn’t meet her goal, she will be put in jail for one hour. The catch? The jail is located in Applebees restaurant.

“I thought it would be a good thing to help people with MD. It would be fun to make a difference and meet different people,” Uldrich said. “We will get to talk to people with the disease, parents and other community members. It will be fun to meet people that I wouldn’t meet otherwise and hopefully promote the brewery a little more.”

Uldrich is asking for the support of the community by donating to the MDA.

The tax-deductible gift will make a difference in the lives of many children and adults living in the community who have muscle disease, Uldrich said.
