WILLOW WOOD - If coach Alvin Carpenter ever wanted to do a stand up comedy routine, his Symmes Valley Vikings could provide the rim shot to his punch lines.

After putting up new rims earlier in the day, the Vikings went out and enjoyed their best shooting performance of the season in an 81-49 rout of the New Boston Tigers in a Southern Ohio Conference game.

The Vikings connected on 30 of 62 attempts for 48.4 percent including 26 of 52 from 2-point range.

"I might have to see if I can get our athletic director to approve the budget so we can get new rims for all our games," Carpenter said with a chuckle.

"We shot real well, but we cut down on our turnovers and our defense was good. We've been a little too aggressive, we're playing hard all the time so I can live with some of the mistakes."

Michael White had 16 points and seven rebounds to lead the Vikings to their second win in three outings and even their SOC record at 1-1.

Dustin Ferguson scored 13 points and Matt Owens had 10 points and four assists.

John Wiseman and Kyle Meadows grabbed six rebounds each while Justin Holland had five steals and Cory Burcham and Craig Neal four apiece.

Mark Salisbury and Mike Day scored 13 points each for New Boston, 2-2 and 1-1.

Neal scored 5 points in the first quarter to offset 6 by Day as the Vikings took a 19-14 lead.

Ferguson knocked down 8 points in the second quarter as the lead grew to 40-26 at the break.

White came back with 8 points in the third quarter to give the Vikings a comfortable 60-41 lead.
