MERCERVILLE - When the St. Joseph Female Flyers leading scorer was forced to watch, her teammates had to assume her scoring role.

They played the part well.

With senior center Christina Harvey battling foul trouble, the Female Flyers picked up the scoring slack and beat the South Gallia Lady Rebels 51-44 Monday for their first win of the season.

"Our girls played hard and it was a good win for us," Female Flyers coach B.J. Hannon said.

"We got in a little foul trouble and didn't have Christina, but Charleigh Haas came in and did a nice job filling in and the other girls stepped it up. Lindsay Dressel and Raven Blake did a nice job offensively to help us keep the lead."

Harvey had a game-high 17 points despite sitting out nearly two quarters. Lindsay Dressel scored 12 points and Raven Blake added 9.

South Gallia, 0-3, was led by Chelsea Stowers with 10 points and Ashley Clark with 9.

Harvey scored 6 in the first quarter as St. Joseph took a 13-9 lead, but she was forced to the bench in the second quarter with three fouls and South Gallia was able to get within 23-22 at the half.

Harvey scored 4 points early in the third quarter before being whistled for her fourth foul to send her back to the bench. However, the Female Flyers pulled away to a 37-31 lead despite Harvey's absence.

Stowers hit a pair of 3-pointers and Ashley Clark had another trey as the Lady Rebels tried to rally in the fourth quarter.

St. Joseph held the lead as Harvey scored 5 points and the Female Flyers converted 6 of 10 from the line with Harvey and Blake combining for five foul shots.

The Female Flyers play at Portsmouth Notre Dame Wednesday.
