CHESAPEAKE - The way the Chesapeake Panthers play every game has been a broken record. And because of that, they have an unbeaten record.

The Panthers did the same thing for the eighth straight game as they got a big lead and coasted past the Huntington (W.Va.) St. Joe Fighting Irish 66-46 Tuesday.

Chesapeake took a 9-0 lead to start the game and led 15-12 at the end of the quarter.

P.J. Rase then knocked down 10 points in the second quarter as Chesapeake built a 31-23 halftime lead.

"It's the same old story. We jumped on them and then got complacent," Panthers coach Norm Persin said. "I thought Rase shot the ball well."

Jeff Thornburg had 5 points in the third quarter as the Panthers eased ahead 45-33. Brennan Hall scored 8 points in the fourth quarter as Chesapeake continued to pull away from the Irish.

Rase had 26 points to lead the Panthers. Hall scored 15 points and had five rebounds, Thornburg got 9 points and six rebounds.

Benny Cheeks and Adam Simmons led the Irish (5-2) with 15 points each.

"(Cheeks) is a nice player. I haven't seen anyone better than him," Persin said. "Our defense wasn't as good as it has been, but they hit some long shots with a man in their face. We stepped it up when we had to in the second half.

"McComas played well. He gave us quite a spark off the bench. He basically held Cheeks to 5 points the second half. He's a good defensive player. And (Dustin) O'Brien did a nice job the second half. He got on the boards well."

The Panthers host River Valley Friday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.
