At one time, he scored points for Auburn University, now he aims to score points on a higher court.

Nationally known speaker Mark Cahill will visit First Baptist Church in Ironton Jan. 22 and 23.

The weekend visit is meant to stir enthusiasm among local faithful who want to reach out to the unchurched in the community.

Cahill is a former basketball player for Auburn University in Auburn, Ala. After graduation, he first tried his hand in the business world and then was called into evangelism. He is the author of the book "The One Thing You Can't Do in Heaven."

"We're calling it 'Make Disciples 2005' and we're wanting to see lost souls saved and bring people into the kingdom," First Baptist Youth Pastor Eric Barnes said.

"The church holds 450 people and I'd love to see the place packed. We've gotten some calls from churches in the area, people are finding out he will be here. We've heard from a church in Columbus and one church from the Huntington-Charleston, (W.Va.) area is bringing a bus load of people," he said.

On Saturday, Jan 22, Cahill will lead a youth evangelism rally. Saturday's event begins at 6 p.m. with registration.

The praise and worship service that follows will feature Cahill, the Kentucky Christian University Band and a performance by local artist Tracy Tooley.

Cahill and the KCU band will also perform during the church's regular Sunday worship service at 9:45 a.m. and will also perform at services Saturday and Sunday. He will also speak at the Sunday worship service at 9:45 a.m.
