We’ve all heard the fairy tales, but what happened to Cinderella and Snow White after the story ended?
A musical performed by Dawson-Bryant Elementary School’s drama club should provide some insight into that question.
“It’s about reconciliation and becoming friends and letting bygones be bygones,” Ronda Hall, who directs the drama club, said. “It’s really cute and funny.”
The show, “Ever After,” features popular fairy tale characters who appear on a television talk show 20 years after their stories have ended.
“Just to see 10- and 11-year-olds pull off a play of this magnitude is pretty amazing,” Hall said. “My host has to know so much, she has just over 80 lines.
“And it’s so funny. We have a fifth grade teacher, Mr. (James) Kearns, that’s going to dance.”
The school’s drama club is made up of 5th grade students who join by auditioning. They practice almost every day after school.
Hall said in addition to seeing another side of her, the club gives the students a sense of confidence.
“They feel like they’re a star,” Hall said. “It doesn’t matter if they’re a main character or one of the dancers.”
“Ever After” will be the group’s seventh musical. Past shows have included “Wonderland,” “Land of Oz,” and “Twinderella.”
“We so appreciate the support of (Principal) Angie Dillow, and (Superintendent Dennis) Decamp,” Hall said. “They’ve been very supportive. Anything I need or want to do at the building, Angie has just been amazing.”
The play will be at 6 p.m. Monday May 10 at Dawson-Bryant Elementary. There is no charge for admission, but concessions will be sold to benefit the drama program.
