PROCTORVILLE - A good second made the Fairland Lady Dragons first.

A big second quarter propelled Fairland to a 61-48 win over the Rock Hill Redwomen Thursday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

"Our seniors did a great job," Fairland coach Mindy Chapman said. "Jodie (Waugh), Kristen (Berry), Jennifer (Legg), Kacie (Lydell) and Kara (Riley) will be missed."

Trailing 16-13 after the first quarter, Fairland outscored the Redwomen 22-4 in the second quarter and then held off a late Rock Hill rally to win.

Brianna Davis had 17 points, Megan Auxier hit four 3-pointers to score 12 points, and Kara Riley had 11 points as Fairland improved to 9-9 overall and 6-2 in the OVC.

Mandi McKenzie had 16 points and five rebounds to lead Rock Hill (1-12, 0-7).

Kelsey Harris and Michelle Pancake combined for 9 points and Brooke Long hit a 3-pointer as Rock Hill took a 16-13 lead after the first quarter.

But Auxier hit three 3-pointers and Davis added 5 points in the second quarter as Fairland rebounded to take a 35-20 halftime lead.

Riley scored 8 points in the third quarter as Fairland extended its lead to 51-30.

Rock Hill staged a comeback in the fourth quarter as McKenzie scored 9 points and Ross 5, but the Lady Dragons converted 6 of 8 from the foul line to seal the win.
