Lady Hornets cruise past South Gallia

COAL GROVE - Early to score, early to lead, makes a team hard to overcome.

The Coal Grove Lady Hornets got a big lead early and coasted past the South Gallia Lady Rebels 57-24 Wednesday in a non-league game.

"We got up early and kept playing well," Coal Grove coach Nick Miller said. "When we played at their place, we got a big lead early and they made some shots in the second quarter to make it close.

"Tonight we got a big lead and coasted. I told the girls let's get after them and we did."

Coal Grove, 11-6, was led by Chelsea Markins with 22 points including four 3-pointers. Samantha Hall added 10 points.

Niki Fulks led South Gallia with 8 points.

Markins was a key reason Coal Grove took a big lead early. She scored 12 points including a pair of 3-pointers in the first quarter. Holli Swarts added 5 points and Hall 4 as Coal Grove took a 21-4 advantage.

Markins nailed two more shots from behind the arc in the second quarter as she scored 8 points to help extend the lead to 37-9 at the half.

Five different players scored in the third quarter and the defense held South Gallia to 3 points to make it a 47-12.
