SCIOTOVILLE - Plan A didn't work. Thank goodness for Plan B.
The Green Bobcats shed their original game plan and went to an alternative plan of strategy as they beat the Portsmouth East Tartans 56-47 Friday in a Southern Ohio Conference game.
"The second half we did a better job defensively. The first half we tried to press and gave up some easy baskets, so we backed off into a halfcourt set and did a pretty good job," Green coach Kevin Sheridan said.
Green had taken a 14-10 lead in the first quarter as Brian Ramey scored 8 points and Jason Bester 4.
Ramey had 7 points and Adam Sparks 4 in the second quarter as the lead held at 27-23.
John Dawson and Bester combined for 10 points in the third quarter and the Bobcats were up 37-32.
In the fourth quarter, Bester had 7 points and Derek Lewis 4 as Green began to stretch out its lead.
Ramey led Green (9-6, 7-3) with 19 points and seven rebounds. Bester had 15 points and John Dawson had 10 points and six rebounds.
Brent Downing had 18 points and Andrew Conley finished with 13 points for East, 9-6 and 5-5.
"Bester and Blevins did a good job on Conley. They made him work for his shots. Derek (Carpenter) made some really nice passes," Sheridan said.
