An Ironton man escaped a prison sentence but will have to register as a sex offender for the next 15 years after he pleaded guilty Wednesday to one count of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor.
Lawrence County Common Pleas Judge D. Scott Bowling sentenced Daniel Uriah Wayne Lyons, 19, of 511 S. Ninth St., Ironton, to four years community control sanctions under intensive supervised probation (CCS/ISP). He further restrained him from going near his victim, a 13-year-old girl. Bowling told Lyons he would be classified as a Tier 1 sex offender which prohibits him from living within 1,000 feet of a school. The complaint states Lyons knew the girl was 13 at the time of the incident.
James Eric Lewis, 48, of 1539 County Road 21, Ironton, pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated trafficking in drugs (oxycodone). Bowling sentenced him to three years in prison. Lewis apologized to Bowling and to his family, some of whom sat in the gallery wiping tears from their eyes as Lewis was sentenced. Lewis wiped his eyes on his shirt sleeve just before he was led away to jail.
Cory A. Crabtree, 18, of 301 Helen St., South Point, pleaded guilty to one count of attempt to commit burglary that had been amended from burglary. Bowling sentenced Crabtree to four years CCS/ISP and ordered him to successfully complete a rehabilitation program at the STAR Community Justice Center. Crabtree thanked Bowling for giving him a chance and said he had gotten “messed up” but promised, “You won’t see me in here again.”
Michael G. Maynard, 38, of 3908 County Road 15, South Point, pleaded guilty to one count of misdemeanor theft, which had been amended from a felony count. Bowling sentenced him to 180 days in jail, suspended the 180 days, placed him on three years probation and ordered him to serve 200 hours of community service and pay $1,000 total restitution. Bowling further ordered that Maynard pay half the restitution Wednesday before he was released from jail.
Phillip R Tolliver, 26, of 59 Hammer Mill Road, Wurtland, Ky., pleaded guilty to a felony count of failure to comply with the order and signal of a police officer and a misdemeanor count of resisting arrest. Bowling sentenced Tolliver to four years CCS/ISP plus six months of electronically monitored home confinement. Tolliver will have driving privileges to work and church privileges and to attend an out-of-town work training session.
Tolliver apologized for the incident that brought him to court and told Bowling he had a problem with alcohol. He promised that on probation, “I won’t let you or anyone else down.”
