PEDRO - It was a team effort.

All 13 of them.

Despite limited numbers, the Rock Hill Redwomen won the McDonald's Invitational Friday at Rock Hill Stadium.

The Redwomen had 113 points to runner-up Fairland's 109 total and third place Coal Grove had 101 points.

"It was a great team effort. We only had one girls win first place, so we had to have a lot points from other places," Rock Hill coach Mike Blagg said.

"We had a lot of girls get their personal best. We got some points in the shot put which we didn't get at all last year, and we got some points in the discus. We needed some points from our field events, too."

Harmoni Schug won the 400-meter dash at 1:06.5 to give Rock Hill its only first- place finish. But Chelsey Cooper was second in the 1600

with her best time, Amy Pierson had her best race of the year in the 100-meter hurdles, and Brittany Ross and Anna Bridges went 2-3 in the high jump.

"We got a lot of second and third place points," Blagg said.

South Point's Sarah Lee captured first place in four events. Lee won the long jump, the high jump, the 100-meter dash and the 200-meter dash.

Other double winners were Ironton's Kayla Wileman in the 100- and 300 -meter hurdles and Fairland's Bethany Barbour won the shot put and discus.

In the boys meet, South Point racked up 173 points to take first place. Chesapeake was second with 159 points while Fairland was a distant third place with 66 points.

The Pointers got first-place finishes from several runners.

Benji Smith won the 110- and 300-meter hurdles and Chris Smith was first in the shot put and the discus. David Absher won the 400-meters while the Pointers also won the 4×100-, 4×200- and 4×400-meter relays.

Chesapeake's Chad Simmons was a double winner as he took first place in the long jump and the 100 meter dash. Fairland's Chuck Wentz won the 1600 and 3200 meter runs.

The Ohio Valley Conference meet will be at 5 p.m. Friday at Fairland.
