Money matters dominate Thursday’s Ironton City Council agenda.

Council will give second reading to an ordinance that would reestablish the city’s municipal fee and second reading to an ordinance that would repeal the city’s payroll tax reciprocity agreement.

City officials estimate that repealing the ordinance would affect approximately 450 city residents who work in other municipalities that have their own payroll taxes.

Offered for first reading is ordinance 12-17, which would increase the service workers license fee from $50 to $100. It is estimated that this change would bring in an additional $6,000 a year.

As council grapples with its 2012 budget, third reading and possible approval may be given to a change in the city’s free dump ordinance. The new plan would restrict free dumping at the city garage and Rumpke Recycling in Hamilton Township to twice a year. The ordinance does not affect weekly regular trash collection.

Ordinance 12-16 would give businesses that have space on the first floor of the city center a 50 percent reduction on their rent but require those businesses to be open for a minimum of six hours a day through the week. At Saturday’s finance committee meeting, Mayor Rich Blankenship said a couple of city center shops are not open every day.

Another item offered for third reading and possible approval would establish contracts for construction materials and concrete for the coming year.

Ordinance 12-4, which would award bids for the purchase of various chemicals, will be given first reading; ordinance 12-5 is a contract to award bids for construction material and concrete.

Also on the agenda is a resolution to accept a donation of a building and lot at 2416 S. Sixth St. from King’s Daughters Medical Center, and a resolution to set the salaries of various non-union employees for the coming year.

Council meets at 6 p.m. Thursday on the third floor of the Ironton City Center.
