SOUTH POINT - Those who attended the summer reading club finale at the Briggs Lawrence County Public Library in South Point on Wednesday not only got to watch the show - they stood a chance of being

part of it.

The Madcap Puppet Theatre of Cincinnati presented a giant puppet and storytelling show for the youth who attended the event.

Puppeteer Brian Edgecomb put on the Fantastic Fairy Tale Show - with a little help from the audience.

For the last two shows, "volunteers" were taken to the front to help tell the stories of "The Water of Life" and "Hansel and Gretel."

"The children are wonderful," Edgecomb said after the show. "I like working with the kids."

The feeling was mutual as the youth rolled with laughter as each story unfolded.

The whole audience participated in the show as both parents and children were making sounds and working with Edgecomb all through the show that even had people watching and laughing from out in the hallway.

Seven-year-old Acrista Fryer said she likes story time a lot. Fryer participated in "The Water of Life" story, which she said was her favorite part of Wednesday's show - and she said she knew it was a puppet the whole time.

"I liked it very much," she said. "It was something fun to do in the summer."

Fryer's best friend Sarah Kidd came to the show with her. She said that she really liked the show and it was something fun to do when it was so hot outside.

When asked what her favorite part of the show was she smiled and said matter-of-factly, "when my best friend was up there."

Many children and parents said they had a great time at the show, as many left the library smiling and laughing after the show. This year's summer reading finale went out with a bang - and a lot of giggles.
