GALLIPOLIS - The biggest school had the smallest total.

Class AAA Cabell Midland, W.Va., had just 31 points to win the Gallipolis Invitational Tuesday at the University of Rio Grande.

Midland won with 31 points. Wheelersburg was second with 79 followed by West Union with 92, South Webster 92, River Valley 105, Beaver Eastern 176, Fairland was seventh with 198, Hillsboro 210, Vinton County 240, Gallipolis 263, Alexander 266 and Huntington Ross had 269 points.

Chuck Wentz led Fairland runners with an 18:54.4 clocking and was 18th overall in the field of 124 participants.

Also running for Fairland were: No. 50 Eddie Adkins 20:38.9, No. 53 Bryan King 20:48.8, No. 64 Aaron Ward 21:40.2, No. 74 Stevie Tweel 22:03.9, No. 95 Dave Goodall 23:47.2,No. 108 John Saccardi 26:22.9 and No. 116 Shane Meadows 27:37.

Although Chesapeake did not have enough runners to qualify as a team, Adam Slone ran a 19:56.8 to place 35th and teammate Tyler Cravens was No. 36 with a 20:01.7 time. The Panthers Grady Starkey was No. 113 with a 27:03.7 time.

Rock Hill's Zach Nelson ran a 20:15.6 and placed 43rd.

Three of Wheelersburg's eight runners finished among the top 12.

Jacob Ruggles ran a 17:39.5 to finish fourth overall. Trevor Miller was 11th at 18:10.2 and Ryan Bell 12th with an 18:14.1 time.

No. 31 was Herbie Otworth at 19:29.6, No. 34 Eli Gerlach 19:48.9, No. 38 Nick Hadsell 20:03.6, No. 93 Billy Akers 23:43.8 and No. 99 Jesse Mault 24:12.8.

In the girls' meet, Cabell Midland, W.Va., had 27 points to take first place, 10 less than runner-up Gallipolis.

Logan and Meigs tied with 92 points, River Valley had 108 and Chesapeake was sixth with 162.

Chelsea McClelland and Hannah Pack led the Lady Panthers as they placed 52 and 53 with times of 28:15.9 and 28:16.3, respectively.

Jill Akers ran a 31:37.8 and Ashton Akers 31:47.8 to finish

72 and 73. Anette Voigt was 75th with a 31:52.9 time.

Amelia Zimmerman of Rock Hill was 57th with a 28:39.1 time and teammate Ashton Brammer ran a 30:20.2 and was No. 65.

Beth Schlegel of Fairland had 29:04.0 time and was 60th.

Chelsea Swick of Wheelersburg ran a 25:57.1 to place 37th and Cortney Bihl was 51st with a 28:04.1 clocking.
