PROCTORVILLE - Will the real Fairland Dragons please take the field?

After three losses to open the season, Fairland bounced back to beat a good Tolsia team last week 27-13.

The Dragons will get to see where they really stand as they host the Meigs Marauders Friday.

"They're a good running team. They have some big backs and linemen and they like to come at you," Fairland coach Brent Wilcoxon said.

Meigs (3-1) opened the season with a loss to Gallipolis but has since rolled past Athens 47-27, River Valley 35-8 and Warren 29-7.

Although Meigs moved the ball against the Gallipolis defense, the Marauders gave up big plays, especially through the air which is a strength of the Dragons.

Offense has been the strong suit of the Marauders who are a power team that relies on its running game.

Jared Casey (5-11, 145), who ran for 1,076 yards last year, is the leading rusher at tailback. The fullback is big Dave Poole (6-3, 250) and the wingback Josh Buzzard (6-0, 190). Eric VanMeter (5-10, 145) is the quarterback.

Cornelius English (5-5, 170) is a big-play runner while the receiving corps is led by Josh Kimes, Ty Wayland and Brad Ramsburg (6-2, 190).

Up front the Marauders have good size with guard/tackle Brandon Goble (6-0, 270) and tackle Jamie Ellis (5-8, 240) both returning starters.

Defensively, Meigs is led by Poole, Ramsburg and Buzzard at linebacker. Goble is back at tackle to anchor the line.

The Dragons have had a tough non-league schedule and picked up their first win last week with a 27-13 win over Tolsia, W.Va.

Quarterback Rich Staggs

had a big game as he completed 14 of 24 for 285 yards and three touchdowns. He was intercepted twice.

On the receiving end was Sam Huff with six catches for 176 yards and two scores. Adam Fuller had 54 yards on four grabs and Josh Johnson had three receptions for 39 yards.

The running game only netted 21 yards due to quarterback sacks. Fuller did gain 41 yards and remains Fairland's top rushing threat.
