CHESAPEAKE - Soon, those traveling Third Avenue in Chesapeake will be able to get a glimpse of the River's Edge.

Local residents Alan Butcher, Freddie L. Hayes, Jr. and Jeff Hutchison have announced the River's Edge Residential Complex.

The housing community, located on Third Avenue in downtown Chesapeake, will consist of a total of 20 to 22 buildings with either two or three bedrooms, each unit with its own garage.

&#8220We want to improve our community,” Jeff Hutchison said.

The complex will cater to the retired and professional communities. It will be totally enclosed which will be a benefit from a safety standpoint, Hutchison said.

River's Edge will also offer residents a downtown location with its close proximity to restaurants, a grocery store, post office and a bank. There will also be easy access to medical facilities - as well as being less than a mile from the 6th Street Bridge leading to Huntington, Hutchison said.

&#8220It should be a nice addition and we are concerned about doing a first-class job,” he said.

The designs of the townhouses will offer the amenities of an upper class home coupled with maintenance free living, including lawn care, developers said.

Both Hutchison and Butcher are lifelong residents of the Chesapeake area, and according to Hutchison, they have had a project like this on their minds for many years.

&#8220We've thought about and talked about it for several years,” he said. &#8220We're very excited.”

Rentals will vary from $950 to $1,250 per month, depending upon the type of unit chosen and strict leases will ensure that each resident is proud of their community.

Hutchison said it would take two or three years to fill up the community consisting of a mixture of one and two bedroom townhouses lining each side of the drive.

Construction on the property will begin in about two to three weeks, according to Hutchison.
