SOUTH POINT - They were nearly the best of times, they were nearly the worst of times.

The South Point Lady Pointers' play resembled a rollercoaster Monday as they outscored the New Boston Lady Tigers 83-72 in the season opener for both teams.

&#8220At times we looked pretty good, but at times we didn't,” Lady Pointers coach Dave Adams said.

&#8220Our new kids did a nice job. Raven (Blake) played pretty well. We had to play some younger kids and it was a good experience for them. I think we were a little nervous.”

Blake had 11 points in her first game but it was the scoring tandem of Jessica Craft and Amy Frasure the Lady Pointers rode to the win.

Craft had a career-high 30 points and Frasure a career-high 22 points to lead four players in double figures. Whitney Woody added 10 points to the winning effort.

Craft and T'Ann Mayo combined for 10 points in the first quarter as South Point took an 18-16 lead. Kara Wiley had 7 points to keep New Boston close.

Craft got the hot hand in the second quarter as she hit six field goals and scored 15 points. Frasure added five points and the lead was 43-33 at the break.

In the third quarter, Frasure and Craft combined for 9 points and the lead grew to 15 points, but Craft and Summer Malone went to the bench in foul trouble and Jill Waugh had 7 points as New Boston closed to within 59-53.

Waugh scored 8 points in the fourth quarter, but Frasure countered with 7 points including 3 of 4 from the foul line down the stretch to preserve the win.
