LUCASVILLE — Rock Hill coach Matt Fulks was hoping his Redwomen would adhere to an eye for an eye theory.

Instead, the Peebles Lady Indians proved no match as they beat the Redwomen 62-41 in the Division III sectional tournament Monday.

“We didn’t match their intensity coming out and that got us in a bind,” Redwomen coach Matt Fulks said. “We knew they were a good team and that we had to match them, but we didn’t match their intensity and we didn’t shoot well.”

Rock Hill was just 15 of 42 from the field — 35.7 percent — and committed 27 turnovers.

Mandi McKenzie had eight points in the first quarter to keep the Redwomen within striking distance at 22-14. But 2 for 8 shooting and 10 turnovers in the second quarter enabled Peebles to pull away to a 42-20 halftime lead.

Peebles led 56-30 after three quarters, but Rock Hill battled to outscore the Lady Indians 11-6 in the fourth quarter.

“We could have folded in the third quarter, but we kept battling,” Fulks said. “I’m just thankful for our three seniors Mandi, Kelsey (Harris) and Brittany (Ross). They showed great leadership tonight and all year.”

Rock Hill, finishing 7-14, was led by McKenzie with 16 points and seven rebounds. Bobbi Harper scored 14 points — 12 in the second half — and had three steals.

Peebles (14-7) got 19 points from Kayla Shoemaker and 17 from Sarah Sexton. Brandi Unger added 10 points.
