Small school, big success.
When the National Honor Society at St. Joseph High School began organizing a coat drive a few weeks ago, the goal was 100 coats. But when the coats were sorted and readied for donation Wednesday afternoon, the finally tally of donated coats was 207. Now consider that there are only 99 students at St. Joe, making its coat drive ratio better than 2:1.
“I’m very proud of the students and proud of their character. I believe it speaks to what they represent,” NHS Advisor Chris Cecil said.” Not only are they hardworking and dedicated to academia, they also have very big hearts.”
The coats were donated to the Appalachian Family and Children First Council. Council Coordinator Shawnta Allen said the coats are badly needed.
“A lot of our clients are looking for coats, so this is very helpful. Last year we didn’t have many coats and the ones we did have were not the right sizes for the people who needed them,” Allen said. “I’m very grateful they thought of us.”
