Ten Ironton High School students are toting home new computers, thanks to the Liebert Corp. and their own school achievements.

The students are this year’s winners in the school’s Tigers Incentives program. The motivational program, started two years ago, rewards students for good attendance, good grades and good behavior. Prizes are given away each grading period, with grand prizes handed out at the end-of-the-school-year awards assembly Wednesday. Last year, Liebert donated four computers, less than half the number donated this year.

“It’s an honor and a privilege to take part in this,” Liebert plant manager Jerry Rowe told the students. “This year, we gave away 10, but next year we may be able to give away 15 or 20.”

Rowe said that each year, Liebert budgets a certain amount of money for community service, and he hopes more money can be budgeted for the computer giveaway next year.

IHS student Joey Pauley said he was “flabbergasted” when his name was called. “I wasn’t expecting it.”

His sentiments were echoed by fellow student Kenny Lin, who also won a computer. “I’m really excited,” Lin said. “I didn’t think I’d win.”

In addition to the computers, two students won $500 in the Tiger Incentives program. An additional 40 students collected $20 awards.
