Ironton High School celebrated its newest graduates Sunday evening.

In all, 108 students graduated from the school in a ceremony at Tanks Memorial Stadium.

Principal Joseph Rowe said the class will be remembered, not only for earning a significant amount of scholarship money, but also for its leadership and character.

“I don’t know the final total amount yet but in recent years it’s rather significant,” Rowe said of the students’ scholarship money. “This has been a fantastic group as far as leadership.”

Cindy Carter Fish was excited to see her youngest daughter, Jaclyn Carter, graduate.

“She’s the last one,” she said. “It’s exciting but I’m ready.”

Fish said her daughter plans to attend Ashland Community and Technical College.

“All of her friends are going away to school and they’re ready to go,” Fish said.

Graduate Jaclyn Marcum was excited to be done with high school.

“I’m glad,” Marcum said. “Finally it’s over.”

Marcum plans to attend two years at Marshall University and then go another two years at West Virginia University. She said her class has achieved much in both academics and athletics.

“Our teams are really good and we have a lot of smart individuals,” she said.

Graduates David Markins, the drum major of the marching band, and Amber Bazell, a majorette, will both miss performing during football games on Friday nights.

Markins is planning to attend Ohio University Southern and study elementary education. He said his class is unique because of all it has been through together.

“We’re just different than others,” he said. “With the new school, we’ve been through a lot and it’s brought us closer and made us appreciate what we’ve got here.”

Bazell plans to go to OUS as well.

“It’s so strange, everything went by so fast,” she said. “But I’m excited. I’m ready to go to college.”
