Martha Reedy

PIQUA —Martha Jan Reedy, 63, of Piqua died Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2011, at Upper Valley Medical Center, Troy. She was born in Lawrence County on May 22, 1948, to the late Thomas and Viola (Witt) O’Leary. On Sept. 13, 1969, in St. Lawrence O’Toole Church, she married Gregory A. Reedy. He survives.

Martha is also survived by two sons, Sean Reedy, Port Clinton and Kevin Reedy, of Piqua; one daughter, Margaret Reedy of Cincinnati; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Michael and Janet O’Leary of Columbus and Martin and Nina O’Leary of Athens; two sisters, Mary June Lavelle and Jean Kelly, both of Ironton; and four grandchildren.

Martha graduated from St. Joseph High School. She then graduated from Huntington East Vocation Technical School, W.Va. with her LPN. Martha was an LPN at Heartland of Piqua for 30 years. She was then an LPN at Harborside, Troy for 1 ½ years.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Lawrence O’Toole Catholic Church, Ironton, with Father David Huffman as celebrant. Friends may call from 6 – 8 p.m. today at Phillips Funeral Home, Ironton. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Ironton. Local arrangements are being handled by Melcher-Sowers Funeral Home, Piqua.

Ford Vencill

Ford (Pete) Vencill, 92, of Ironton, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2011, at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky. The Pedro native was born March 9, 1919, the son of the late George N. and Bessie Payne Vencill. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Nellie Mae Washburn Vencill.

Mr. Vencill attended Ironton City Schools, was a TV repairman at Home Supply Co. in Portsmouth for 20 years. He also was a former employee for Chamberlins and Bob Renner Appliances both in Ironton.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, William Richard Vencill; two brothers, Clare Vencill and Robert Vencill; and three sisters, Polly Vencill, Margaret McClaskey and Judith McCann.

He is survived by two sons, Daniel Ralph Vencill of Ashland and Joseph Edward Vencill of Scottown; two daughters, Betty Ann Vencill of Ironton and Rebecca Lee Lyons of Haverhill; and two grandsons, Jean-Paul Lyons of Haverhill and Allexander Lyons of Albuquerque, N.M.

Funeral services will be noon Saturday at Phillips Funeral Home with Pastor Jeff Black officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery and friends may call Saturday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Frances Porter Jr.

ASHLAND, KY. — Frances Marion Porter, Jr., 76, of Ashland, died Wednesday, Dec.14, 2011, at Kings Daughters Medical Center. Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Bailey Family Funeral Home in Flatwoods with the Rev. J.E. Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Burial Park in Ashland. Anna Henderson, 83, of Ironton died Thursday, Dec.15, 2011, at Kingsbrook Lifecare Center, Ashland, Ky. Arrangements are pending at the Tracy Brammer – Monroe Funeral Home.
