Ironton is considering deeding some more property to the Ironton Port Authority, but representatives from both groups are hesitant about just what it’ll be used for.

The Ironton City Council will give first reading of an ordinance tonight that would put a small strip of land near the Ironton Hills Plaza into the hands of the IPA, the council’s economic development arm.

The city has already given several properties to the IPA, including the former Honeywell building on Third Street, and the former National Guard armory building.

This strip is smaller than the others, containing just 1/10 of an acre, but Mayor John Elam said that it would also be used for “economic development.”

IPA member Rob Slagel was similarly tight-lipped about the intended purpose of the land.

“It’s a tool that’s we’re intending to use for economic development,” Slagel said.

Slagel did say that more information could possibly be divulged during tonight’s meeting of the council, which will be held at 6 p.m. in the council chambers.
