While several changes have been made to the fairgrounds, the Lawrence County Fair itself will also have a new feature this year.

Local bands will compete in a battle of the bands competition at 7 p.m. Wednesday July 14, at the grandstand. Six bands have signed up to compete. The winning band will get to open for Jamey Johnson on July 15. The band will also receive $1,000 in prize money. The second place band will win $500.

This year’s fair will also pay homage to some past participants in the fair.

During the opening ceremony on Monday July 12, the 4-H food building at the fairgrounds will be dedicated to Doug Clark, a past board president who died in November.

A hog show July 13 will be dedicated to the memories of Chaunchey Neal and Gary Adams, both of whom were involved in 4-H and died recently.

The fair will also feature mainstay events like the demolition derby Saturday July 10. Motocross and a Tractor Pull and Kiddie Pedal Pull will follow Sunday and Monday.

Tuesday July 13 will be the Tough Truck Competition. If 15 people participate in the competition, the prize money will be $500. If there are more than 15, the prize money will be $1,000. The event costs $25 to register and is open to cars, trucks and dune buggies.

Country singer Jamey Johnson will perform Thursday July 15 at 7 p.m. Friday will be the Bull Mania event and Saturday will feature the demolition derby.
