Ashland tops Lady Hornets, 53-38

ASHLAND, Ky. — It came down to execution.
The Ashland Kittens used a well-executed offense to beat the Coal Grove Lady Hornets 53-38 Saturday in a non-league.
“They did a good job running their offense,” Lady Hornets coach Nick Miller said. “They did a good job of pressuring our shooters.”
Chelsea Markins led Coal Grove (12-4) with 16 points while Samantha Hall scored 14.
Ashland led just 7-6 at the end of the first quarter as Markins had 4 of Coal Grove’s 6 points.
Coal Grove went cold in the second quarter as Ashland outscored the Lady Hornets 20-9 to take a 27-15 halftime cushion.
Hall had 8 of Coal Grove’s 9 third quarter points and the Kittens were now in front 43-24.
Markins got 9 of Coal Grove’s 14 points in the fourth quarter as the Lady Hornets managed to outscored Ashland 14-10.
“I give our girls credit. They didn’t quit,” Miller said.
Coal Grove visits River Valley Thursday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.
