UPDATE: Man shot in Ironton; officer named

Detective Aaron Bollinger has been identified as the Lawrence County Sheriff’s deputy involved in the shooting of Johnny Stapleton.
Stapleton was shot once; the bullet struck him in the upper arm and in the face after being stopped in the vicinity of North Eighth and Lawrence streets. He was secretly indicted last week on drug trafficking charges by a Lawrence County grand jury.
The incident happened at approximately 9 p.m. Wednesday.
Stapleton of Ashland, Ky., was taken to Cabell Huntington Hospital. A hospital spokesman had no information of his condition.
Bollinger has been with the sheriff’s office since Dec. 10, 1998. The shooting remains under investigation by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Identification.
