IRONTON – Ironton police are investigating the death of an elderly woman found inside a parked vehicle Monday morning on 4th Street near the Ironton Skate Park.

The woman’s body was discovered just after 10 a.m. inside a white Buick Enclave parked on the west side of the road just before Etna Street. By 10:30 a.m. the body had been removed but officers were still on the scene interviewing witnesses.

Detective Chris Bowman said officers responded to a call about an unresponsive woman in a vehicle but could not say who had made the phone call to authorities. He said police were still working to notify the woman’s family so he could not release a name at this time. He said it is believed the woman lived in the area.

Bowman said he could not comment on whether natural causes or foul play is suspected. “We’re still in the preliminary stages of our investigation,” he said.
