There is a new member on the Lawrence County Fair Board with the addition of Clerk of Courts Mike Patterson.
Patterson was voted to the board Saturday during its annual election at the courthouse.
“I am excited about working with these guys,” Patterson said. “I see so many improvements, so many good things going on. I want to be a part of that for the kids. It makes the kids feel good when they see improvements being done up there. I want to be a part of that, working with those fellows.”
Also elected were incumbents Kenny Mannon, Randall Lambert, Ben Coleman and Doug Curry. Their terms are for three years. Each year five members are elected to the 15-member board that governs activity at the fair grounds and the summer junior 4-H fair.
Officers will be chosen at the board’s organizational meeting Monday at 7 p.m.
Next month demolition is expected on the livestock barn at the fairgrounds as the board starts work on building a new $400,000 structure. The construction project is expected to be completed in time for next year’s fair.
Bob Calloway of Rolo Construction and Excavating is donating time and labor for the demolition.
“That’s $50,000 worth of donation to tear it down and haul it away,” Freddie Hayes, fair board president, said.
Right now bids are being taken for the barn and arena construction and will be opened Monday, Oct. 31.
