A concerned citizen’s early-morning call about suspicious activity helped Ironton police nab a suspected catalytic converter thief. Authorities are looking for a second man in connection with the incident.

Donald L. Sisler Jr., 18, 2163 County Road 22, Ironton, was arrested Sunday and charged with theft, possession of criminal tools and resisting arrest. He was taken to the Lawrence County Jail. He was arraigned Monday in Ironton Municipal Court. Judge O. Clark Collins set bond at $7,500 cash or $20,000 property and set a Preliminary hearing for Thursday.

Police have issued a warrant for Joshua D. Brumfield, 21, of 2341 County Road 22, Ironton. He also faces a theft charge.

According to the Ironton Police Department log, someone telephoned the police department just after midnight Sunday and said two men were underneath a car at the Harriet Lewis Apartments, 401 N. Fifth St.

“They were in the process of cutting one (catalytic converter) when police were notified,” Capt. Chris Bowman said.

Sisler was apparently apprehended at the scene but Brumfield fled.

Bowman said Brumfield is no stranger to authorities or to catalytic converters. Bowman said he was arrested for the same thing in February and served 90 days in jail. He was released from jail May 4.

Bowman said the alert from the concerned citizen was much appreciated.
