Lady Dragons, Dragons claim Rio Grande XC invitational

RIO GRANDE — The Fairland boys and girls cross country teams picked up wins on Saturday at the University of Rio Grande Patty Forgey Invitational.

The Lady Dragons won the White Division title with 50 points. Eastern Meigs was second with 68 followed by Williamson (W.Va.), 100, Caldwell 119, Cabell Midland (W.Va.) 135, Ironton 151, Waverly 168, West Branch 202, River Valley 232, Oak Hill 238, Westfall 266 and Riverside (W.Va.) 335.

Shanan Ashton led Fairland with a 21:14.87 clocking to finish fifth overall.

Megan Ashton was ninth (22:06.91) with Jessica Price No. 13 (22:29.04) and Sydney Pettit one spot behind (22:31.39).

Sarah Warnock was No. 23 (23:18.76) for the Lady Dragons, Faith Hurula No. 53 (25:19.58), Savanah Nelson No. 59 (25:45.11) and Carrie Tanner No. 80 (26:48.76).

Ariel Schweickart was eighth with a time of 21:52.45 to lead Ironton. Kaylie Sturgill was No. 34 (24:06.48), Maggie Thomas No. 42 (24:33.79), Brooklyn Shope No. 55(25:29.70), Ashton McMackin No. 60 (25:51.96), Hannah Cronacher No. 71 (26:26.75), Colleen Walker No. 74 (26:38.98), Shannon Walker No. 78 (26:46.23), Macy Wise No. 95 (27:45.72)and Allison Hunt No. 126 (34:17.29).

Rock Hill’s Madison Nelson was No. 108 (30:47.31) and Brooklyn Massie No. 115 (31:47.47).

The Fairland boys had 41 points to win the Red Division over runner-up Thomas Worthington with 52 points.

Caldwell and Greenbrier East (W.Va.) tied for third with 109 points, South Webster 131, Athens 151, Logan Elm 169 and Greenfield McClain 170.

The Dragons were led by Tanner Mattie who won the overall individual title with a 17:02.88 time.

Raine Wireman finished third overall with a 17:32.24 time. Ryan Stewart was No. 7 (17:43.92) and Chad McComas eighth (17:47.56).

Also running for the Dragons were: No. 27 Dylan Hannon (19:02.10), No. 28 Zack Fannin (19:05.10), No. 32 Josh Sifford (19:12.48), No. 40 Grant Clarkson (19:32.35) and No. 65 Dylan Bentley (21:10.10).

Ironton’s lone runner was Caleb Franz who finished No. 39 with a 19:31.84 clocking.
