Regardless of the sport or gender, Fairland and Chesapeake is a battle.
Although is wasn’t easy, the Fairland Lady Dragons won all three sets as they beat the Lady Panthers 26-24, 25-14, and 25-19 Monday in an Ohio Valley Conference volleyball game.
Panthers coach Dana Edwards praised Fairland’s effort as well as his own team, especially in the first game.
“That first game was a war,” said Edwards. “Give credit to Fairland. Brianna Day is smart. She reads the floor well and puts the ball in the right place.”
Amanda Ruffner led the Lady Panthers with 16 spikes, eight for kills.
“Amanda Ruffner had a super game. Nikki Lindsey had some really nice serves. Sarah Cravens just hustled and kept us in the game. It just wasn’t enough to push us over the top,” said Edwards.
In the junior varsity match, Fairland won 25-16, 8-25, 25-10.
Taylor Manns racked up 15 ace serves and Karmen Mendoza added five ace serves to lead Fairland.
For Chesapeake, Megan Gilpin had four ace serves and Caitlin Heffner got six ace serves.
Chesapeake visits Rock Hill Thursday.
