Marjorie L Markel, 97, of Pedro, went to her heavenly home on Monday, April 28, 2025.

The Lawrence County native was born on May 30, 1927, to the late John and Mary Willis McCorkle.

She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her loving husband Robert Markel; two sons, John Markel and Ricky Markel; three sisters, Helen Sharp, Mary (Libby) Newman and Faye Crawford; and one brother, Sydney McCorkle.

Those left to cherish her memory are two daughters, Joan Sturgill and Mary Jo (Bob) Malone; one son, Mike (Lana) Markel; daughter-in-law Debbie Markel; three grandchildren that she helped to raise,: Garth and Robbie Sturgill and Dani Morgan; 13 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Tom McCorkle; sister, Janice Kerns; a brother-in-law, Jim Crawford; a special great nephew, Victor Day; and a host of family and friends.

Marjorie was loved by all who came in contact with her and will be greatly missed.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday at O’Keefe Baker Funeral Home in Ironton, with Brandon DePriest officiating. Burial will follow in Lawrence Furnace Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m.–1 p.m. at the funeral home.
