Lady Vikings get big SOC win over Northwest; down Western, PW

In a game that featured a small strike zone that led to 19 walks, the Symmes Valley Lady Vikings outlasted the Northwest Lady Mohawks 16-12 on Monday in a key Southern Ohio Conference 2 game.

The LadyVikings gave up 10 walks and Northwest allowed 9 free passes.

With the win, Symmes Valley moved to 5-0 in the SOC with Northwest falling to 5-2.

“It wasn’t pretty on either side, but it was a conference win and a big conference win. We’ll take it,” said Lady Vikings coach Jeff “Odie” Estep.

The Lady Vikings took a 6-0  lead in the first inning.

Brenna Tibbs and Lindsey Freeman walked, Marley Ferguson had an RBI double, Emma Ridenour walked, a wild pitch scored a run and Kaycee Thompson hit a 2-run sacrifice fly. Natalie Simpson walked and Autumn Justice reached on an error for a run and Addi Ridenour had an RBI single.

Northwest scored 4 runs in the bottom of the inning only to have Symmes Valley get a run in the second inning on a hit by Ferguson, Emma Ridenour walked and Simpson reached on an error.

After Northwest made it 7-6 in the bottom of the second, the Lady Vikings got 3 runs in the third to lead 10-6.

Ferguson and Emma Ridenour singled, moved up on a wild pitch and Alyssa Waugh was safe on an error for 2 runs and another error scored Waugh.

The lead went 14-7 in the fourth inning.

Addie Ridenour singled and Tibbs tripled for a run, Freeman reached on an error and Ferguson doubled for a run. Emma Ridenour was safe on an error for a run and Waugh hit a sacrifice fly.

A run scored in the fifth when Justice, Tibbs and Freeman all singled.

Northwest (12-3) got 2 runs in the bottom of the fifth and the Lady Vikings got an insurance run in the top of the seventh when Tibbs reached on an error and scored when Ferguson reached on an error.

The Lady Vikings had 12 hits as Ferguson went 4-6 with 2 doubles and 3 RBI, Tibbs 3-5 with a triple and an RBI, Addi Ridenour 2-5, Hawk 1-2, Thompson 1-4, and Emma Ridenour and Freeman 1-5.

LATHAM — Another league game and another league win.

The Symmes Valley Lady Vikings used a one-hitter by Addy Hawk to rout the Western Lady Indians 14-0 on Wednesday in a 5-inning run rule Southern Ohio Conference 2 game.

Hawk struck out 9 and walked 2 in picking up the win as the Lady Vikings improved to 16-1 on the season and 6-0 in the SOC-2.

Symmes Valley had 13 hits with Brenna Tibbs going 3-4 with a home run and 2 RBI, Lindsey Freeman 3-4 with 2 doubles and 4 RBI, Addi Ridenour 2-3 with a double, Emma Ridenour 3-4 with 2 RBI, Marley Ferguson 1-3 with a double, and Alyssa Waugh 1-2 with a double.

Freeman doubled in a pair of runs as the Lady Vikings took a 4-0 lead in the first inning.

After Symmes Valley got a run in the third, Freeman doubled home 2 runs and Emma Ridenour singled in a pair as the lead went to 9-0.

Tibbs belted a 2-run home run in the fifth as the Lady Vikings scored 4 more runs..

Aubrey Penwell had the only hit for Western (1-5) as she went 1-2.

AID — A couple of young teams with only a pair of seniors clashed and the young Symmes Valley Lady Vikings topped the Portsmouth West Lady Senators 9-6 on Tuesday in a non-league game.

“West has a young ball club. They’re going to be a good team down the road,” said Lady Vikings’ coach Jeff “Odie” Estep. “We’re a young team and our girls played pretty well.”

Addy Hawk and Brenna Tibbs combined on a 6-hitter for the win. Hawk went 5 innings giving up the 6 hits, 5 runs of which 4 were earned, and she struck out one and walked 3.

Tibbs worked the final 2 innings allowing no hits, one earned run, one strikeout and one walk.

Tibbs swung a big stick for the Lady Vikings as she went 4-5 wtih 2 doubles, a home run and 4 RBI. Marley Ferguson was 2-4 with a home run and 2 RBI, Kaycee Thompson 2-3 with a double, a home run and and RBI, and Emma Ridenour was 2-3 with an RBI.

Addi Ridenour, Autumn Justice and Lindsey Freeman were all 1-3 and Alyssa Waugh 1-4.

West got a run in the top of the first inning but the Lady Vikings scored 2 in the bottom of the inning.

The Lady Senators tied the game in the second only to have Thompson hit a solo home run in the bottom of the inning to tie the score and Tibbs belted a 2-run homer after Addi Ridenour reached on an error and the lead was 5-2.

Each team got a run in the third and the Lady Vikings got a run in the fourth to lead 7-3.

Tibbs doubled home a run in the fifth and Ferguson slugged a leadoff home run in the sixth to cap the LadyVikings scoring.

Portsmouth West (8-6) was led by Kyleigh McCleese who went 2-4.
