June 12, 1951–April 21, 2025

Robert L. Nelson, age 73, of Ironton, passed away at UK Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky, on Monday, April 21, 2025.

He was born June 12, 1951 to the late Orlyn and Glenna May Chapman Nelson.

He was the husband of Ann Handley Nelson.

He retired from Marathon Ashland Oil, was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church of Ironton, member of the Knights of Columbus, and a U.S. Army veteran.

Survivors, including his wife, are daughters, Becky (Donald) Pancake, Brianna (Russell) Lyons; and son, Father Thomas Nelson; six grandchildren; and one great grandchild; sister, Glenna Riffe; and sister-in-law, Jackie Nelson; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by sister, Reba (Jim) Roberts; brothers, Jim (Jane) Nelson, James Nelson and John “Bill” Nelson.

Visitation will be 6–8 p.m. Tuesday at O’Keefe-Baker Funeral Home with the Rosary at 7 p.m. Funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, with Father Wayne Morris officiating.

The burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Donations can be made to the Catholic Community of Ironton or non-perishable goods to the food pantry.
