PROCTORVILLE — Last year, the Fairland Dragons started slow against their non-league schedule and ended up battling for the Ohio Valley Conference title.

Is this a replay?

Fairland ran its record to 2-5 on Friday with a 9-0 OVC win over the Coal Grove Hornets. But in the league, the Dragons are 1-0.

Fairland pitcher Garrett Cornwell threw a 2-hit complete game as he struck out 12 and walked just one.

The Dragons had 9 hits with Wyatt Thomas going 2-3, Chase Lapole 2-3 with an RBI, Kaden Wiseman 1-4 with a double and 3 runs batted in, Luke Brown 1-4 with a double and 3 RBI, Cornwell 1-2 with 2 RBI, Cyrus Cummings 1-2 and Josh Gillispie 1-3.

Braden Schug and Leland McKnight each went 1-3 for Coal Grove (1-4, 0-2).

Leland McKnight started and went 4.1 innings and got the loss. He gave up 7 hits, 3 earned runs with 3 walks and no strikeouts. Reliever Cane Runnells finished and gave up 2 hits, 6 runs with 4 earned, 3 walks and no strikeouts.

CHILLICOTHE — The Zane Trace Pioneers parlayed 9 hits and 4 Fairland errors to beat the Dragons 8-2 on Saturday.

Zane Trace (7-0) used the complete game pitching of Pierce Manson to remain unbeaten. Manson gave up 8hits, 2 unearned runs, struck out 7 and walked one.

Coen Larson was 3-4 with an RBI, Gunnar McCullough 3-3 with 2 RBI and Landen Jarrell 2-4 with 2 doubles and an RBI for the Pioneers.

Fairland (3-6) had 8hits but couldn’t bunch them together. Garrett Cornwell was 3-3 and Elias Blankenship 2-3 with a double to pace the offense.
