Ironton to pave roads on Maple Street, Fifth Street

With spring finally here, road repaving is getting underway in Ironton.

Mayor Sam Cramblit said they will be working on about 10 city blocks in this project, which is one of three the city will be doing this year.

The paving is set to begin on Tuesday, weather permitting.

“Once this is completed, this will be the seventh paving project since 2023,” Cramblit said. “That gives us with approximately 200 blocks paved in the city.”

This paving project includes Fifth Street between Walnut and Neil streets and Maple Avenue between Ninth Street and Liberty Avenue, also known as 11th Street.

“The project costs about $683,740. Eighty percent of that was funded by a federal transportation grant through the KYOVA Interstate Planning Commission,” Cramblit said, adding it was specifically for corridor streets. He said previous projects only paved the driving lanes, not the parking lanes, in an effort to pave as many blocks as possible. “With the federal money, they require the entire width of the streets to be paved and all the handicap ramps be rebuilt to ADA standards, we did those a while ago.”

People who live in those areas will be getting notices to not park on the streets during the paving, otherwise, their cars will be towed.

“For the contractors to start milling the asphalt on these streets, all vehicles will need to be moved from those blocks before 7 a.m. on Tuesday or they will be towed,” Cramblit said. “If it is pushed back or changed, we will notify residents.”
