Generally, pitcher Abbie Deeds dominates the headlines for the Lady Hornets. But the offense pounded out 13 hits in a 10-2 Ohio Valley Conference win over the South Point Lady Pointers on Wednesday.

Izzy Kitts and Rylee Bare both went 3-4 and Rylee Black was 2-4 with a double and 2 runs batted in.

Deeds was still headline worthy as she pitched a 4-hitter, striking out 13 with no walks. Both runs she allowed were earned.

South Point (4-2, 1-1) took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a triple by Koda Copley and Addison Copley’s ground out.

But Coal Grove (4-3, 1-1) came back in the second inning to take a 4-1 lead.

Mia Haynes, Kasey Vanderhoof and Braelie Hitchcock all walked to start the inning. Kendall Taylor hit a sacrifice fly, Shay Collins had an RBI single, Deeds grounded out for a run and Collins scored on a passed ball.

Sartaina Jackson hit a home run leading off the bottom of the second for the other Lady Pointers’ run.

The lead went to 6-2 in the third when Bare doubled and Mia Haynes and Vanderhoof both singled.

Coal Grove got a run in the fifth when Kitts singled, stole second and third, and scored on a ground out.
