BEAVER — Tanner Corn tossed a 3-hit shutout and the Symmes Valley batters got off to an early start to post a 9-0 win over the Eastern Eagles in a Southern Ohio Conference game on Wednesday.

The Vikings generated some early offense as Andy Strow drove in 2 runs in as many at bats, Gradee Holland scored on a pass ball in the second, and Asher Maynard and Braden Hankins each scored a run with an RBI singles in the third to help build up a 5-0 lead through three innings.

Corn went the distance for the Vikings, fanning 8 batters and allowing just 3 walks. Corn shut down one of the few scoring threats from Eastern in the third. After allowing a base hit to Declan Davis, the junior struck out the side to end the inning.

The Vikings (6-2, 2-1 SOC) piled on four more runs in the top of the seventh, highlighted by a 2 out double by Jackson Fields to bring Strow and make it 8-0.

Trey Kelly took the loss for the Eagles (1-4, 1-1), giving up 4 earned runs and striking out 5 in a 6-inning effort.

Maynard finished 2-4 including a double in the third and 2 RBIs. Will Jones, Thompson, Corn, Hankins, Fields and Carpenter each tallied a hit for the Vikings.

The Eagles’ only hits came from Davis, Eric Manley and Connor Leist.

The Vikings will be on the road against SOC foe South Gallia on Monday.
