Charles Delong

March 9, 1946–March 16, 2025

 

Charles Raymond Delong, 79, of Kitts Hill, went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, March 16, 2025, at Community Hospice, Ashland, Kentucky.

He was born March 9, 1946, to the late Isaac and Jessie (Reed) Delong.

Charles graduated from Dawson-Bryant High School and served in the United States Army for three years.

After his enlistment, Charles worked as a laborer for Carlyle Tile, C&O, then Progressive Welding at the Mead Paper Mill, Chillicothe. After retirement, he worked for several years at Dickess Tree Farm in Kitts Hill.

He loved to fish, noodle for turtles and hunt for ginseng and arrowheads, all around the area of Kitts Hill.

Charles was a sweet soul, loved by all that knew him and was willing to offer a helping hand to anyone in need. He was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Charles A. Delong Jr.; two sisters, Ruth A. Ealley and Glenna F. Holder; and a brother, Isaac Delong Jr.

Those left to celebrate his life are three sons, Anthony R. Delong, Bruce E. Delong and Ronald S. Delong; two daughters, Desa Rae Coleman and Regina Lyn Roper; a sister, Sharon (Rod) Dillon, of Coal Grove, and several close family, special friends and neighbors who will miss him greatly.

A funeral service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Phillips Funeral Home, 1004 S. Seventh St., Ironton, with Bro. Mike Triplett officiating. Burial will follow in Bald Knob Cemetery, Township Road 112, Kitts Hill.

Visitation will be noon until the time of the service at the funeral home.
