Two rounds expected throughout day

The Ironton/Ashland area is forecast to receive strong winds and storms on Saturday, with potentially damaging effects.

According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, West Virginia, which covers the Tri-State, two rounds of storms are forecast for Saturday.

Meteorologist Jennifer Berryman said the first is expected between 6-8 a.m. and will last into mid-morning.

These storms will contain strong winds and thunderstorms.

Berryman said that conditions exist for some isolated pockets to receive winds in the 50-60 mph range.

“That could be damaging in those isolated areas,” she said. “And there could be some hail with that.”

She said after the first round is over, a lull will occur, with a second round arriving in the afternoon, likely between 2-4 p.m., accompanying a cold font.

She said that front will slowly make its way across the area and the rick of storms and winds will continue into the first half of the night.
