Mother, son indicted for firefighter attack

Both charged with assault, misconduct at an emergency
A mother and son were indicted by the Lawrence County Grand Jury for their part in an attack on a fireman that was trying to save their house from burning.
On Dec. 7, 2024, Lawrence Township volunteer firefighter Don Mannon was attacked by father, mother and son while he was he was putting fire gear back in the truck.
In January, the father, Arnold L. Berry, 60, Kitts Hill, was indicted by the grand jury on two charges, fourth-degree assault and first-degree misdemeanor misconduct at an emergency.
The most recent grand jury indicted his wife, Tina L. Berry, 54, and his son, Chance R. Berry, 30, on the same charges.
In a February interview, Lawrence County prosecutor Brigham Anderson explained the Berrys didn’t like that they weren’t able to move a vehicle away from the house while the fire was being put out” and “They punched (Mannon) and kicked him, knocked him to the ground as he was rolling hose up to the fire.”
People indicted and their charges include:
• Jason E. Yates, 47, South Point, first-degree felony aggravated trafficking in drugs and second-degree felony possession of fentanyl-related compounds.
• Chance R. Berry, 30, Kitts Hill, fourth-degree felonious assault and first-degree misdemeanor misconduct at an emergency.
• Tina L. Berry, 54, Kitts Hill, fourth-degree felonious assault and first-degree misdemeanor misconduct at an emergency.
• William Mollett, 31, Ironton, third-degree felony tampering, fifth-degree felony vandalism and fourth-degree felony failure to appear.
• Thomas Ira Valentine, 33, Ironton, third-degree felony aggravated possession of drugs.
• John P. Blair, 46, Ironton, fourth-degree felony failure to appear.
• Donalo E. Baines, 38, Cleveland, first-degree felony possession of fentanyl-related compounds with gun specification, third-degree felony trafficking in a fentanyl-related compound with a gun specification, third-degree felony having weapons under disability and third-degree tampering with evidence.
• Christopher A. Lowe, 21, Ironton, third-degree strangulation and first-degree misdemeanor domestic violence.
• Lutz Trautzsch, 66, Sidney, second-degree corrupting another with drugs and fifth-degree felony possession of fentanyl-related compounds.
• David Leon Lyle, 31, Pearland, Texas, third-degree felony aggravated possession of drugs, third-degree felony aggravated trafficking in drugs and fifth-degree felony receiving proceeds of an offense subject to forfeiture.
• Timothy Wayne White, 41, Chesapeake, third-degree felony aggravated possession of drugs and third-degree felony tampering with evidence.
• Penny Renae White, 46, Chesapeake, third-degree felony aggravated possession of drugs and third-degree felony tampering with evidence.
• Philip Walton Ford Cazad, 20, South Point, fifth-degree felony vandalism.
• Jerly R. Ross, 39, Proctorville, fifth-degree felony possession of drugs and fifth-degree felony possession of a fentanyl-related compound.
• Alena A. Pennington, 53, South Point, fifth-degree felony possession of drugs.
• Chelsey N. Hankins, 38, South Point, fifth-degree felony possession of drugs and fourth-degree felony possession of a fentanyl-related compound.
• Roy Lewis Evans, 36, South Point, third-degree compelling prostitution.
