For many years, Rally on the River was a popular draw in downtown Ironton, with the multi-day festival drawing big names acts and crowds to the region, providing, not just an event opportunity, but an economic boost to the city.
As they say, everything has a lifespan and, for a variety of reasons, that festival, as popular as it once was, came to an end about a decade ago, and many have lamented its loss.
However, this year, an opportunity is taking shape to build a new tradition.
Donnie Roberts and several organizers have taken the initiative to put together Thunder on the River, a bike rally set for Aug. 20-24.
Last week, they announced their lineup for the event and they are ambitious in their plans and hope to see the festival grow into something much larger.
We commend them for their efforts, wish them success and look forward to seeing what they bring to the city.
Any event of the scale they plan could be a major player in bringing some enrgy into our downtown and its economy.
