Wednesday marked the third day of an exciting event for Special Olympics athletes.
The annual bowling event at Spare Time took place, organized by Lawrence County Special Olympics.
Michelle Aldridge, Special Olympics coordinator for Lawrence County said more than 400 athletes had taken part in the event, ranging from preschool to adults.
She said it gives them a chance to take part in noncompetitive bowling, be treated to lunch and meet up with friends.
Wednesday’s event featured elementary school students, while high school, middle school and adults took part in the first two days of the event.
Aldridge said Spare Time sponsors the event each time.
“They open their doors every year and don’t charge,” she said.
Special Olympics has two more events planned for the remainder of the school year. A basketball event will take place at Dawson-Bryant High School in March, while the track and field events are set for Chesapeake High School from May 7-8.
