Chesapeake’s Isaacs, Ball key comeback win over CG

CHESAPEAKE — Kate Ball held the fort and then Abbey Isaacs bombed it.
Ball’s scoring kept Chesapeake close and then Isaacs 3-point shooting barrage and scoring rallied the Lady Panthers to a 41-33 Ohio Valley Conference win over the Coal Grove Lady Hornets on Thursday.
“Abbey really carried up offensively in the second half,” said Chesapeake coach Chris Ball.
“It was another hard-fought, ugly game by both teams that we were able to sneak away with.”
Emma Lively scored 3 points with Izzy Kitts and Jenna Anson adding baskets as Coal Grove took a 7-2 first quarter lead.
Ball scored the lone basket for Chesapeake (11-8, 5-7).
Kelli Vanderhoof and Anson had baskets with Abbie Deeds coming off the bench to convert 3 of 4 free throws for Coal Grove, but Ball hit a pair of 3-pointers and Chloe Parrott had a basket as Chesapeake cut the deficit to 14-10 at the half.
Isaacs stormed the scoreboard by making three 3-pointers and scoring 16 points in the third quarter as the Lady Panthers took a 28-24 lead.
Kendall Taylor scored 6 points with Deeds and Lively making 2 free throws each for Coal Grove (8-10, 4-8).
In the fourth quarter, Isaacs drilled two more 3-pointers, Erin Hicks made a trifecta and Ball added 3 points as Chesapeake added to its lead.
Taylor scored 5 points including 3 of 3 at the line while Kasey Vanderhoof made 2 foul shots and Kitts added a basket as Coal Grove tried to battle back.
Isaacs finished with a game-high 22 points and Ball scored 11 points.
Taylor had 11 points to pace a balanced Coal Grove offense that had seven players score.
