Lady Panthers’ coach is ‘Ball-ing’ after 33-25 win over Lady Pointers

Chesapeake’s Chris Ball racks up career victory No. 200

CHESAPEAKE — It was win No. 10 on the season for the Chesapeake Lady Panthers. But it was win No. 200 in the career of Lady Panthers’ head coach Chris Ball.

Chesapeake battled past the South Point Lady Pointers 33-25 in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Monday.

“We’ve won a lot of games and some of them have been ugly wins, but they’re wins,” said Ball who is in his 16th season as the Lady Panthers’ head coach.

“There are so many great girls I have coached and so many great memories. Chesapeake has been good to me and I am just grateful for the opportunity that I was given.”

Abbey Isaacs and Kate Ball scored 11 points each to pace the Lady Panthers (10-7, 4-7).

Saratina Jackson had 9 points and Jasmyn Jones 7 to lead South Point (9-7, 5-6).

Chesapeake took an 11-5 first quarter lead as Erin Hicks drained a pair 3-pointers and Ball also hit a trifecta.

Leila Hall had all of the Lady Pointers total.

The Lady Panthers extended the lead to 22-12 at the half’s Ball — the daughter of the head coach — knocked down a pair of shots from beyond the arc and Ciera Nichols also hit a 3-pointer while Isaacs added a basket.

Jones scored 4 points and Jackson hit a 3-pointer to keep the Lady. Pointers within striking distance.

South Point cut the deficit to 29-21 after three quarter as Jackson scored 4 pitons, Jones 3 and Josie Kidd hit a pair of free throws.

Isaacs hit a 3-pointer and a pair of free throws while Nichols added the other basket.

Neither team could score in the fourth quarter as Chesapeake out-pointed South Point 4-3.

Chloe Parrott and Ball had baskets for Chesapeake while Jackson got a basket and Samiya Bradburn sank a free throw.
