UNION TOWNSHIP — The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal incident that occurred on State Route 7 near State Route 775 in Union Township, Lawrence County.

On January 18, 2025 at approximately 2:05 a.m., a 2008 Toyota hatchback being operated by Daniel L. Jones II, 48, of Proctorville was traveling on State Route 7 near State Route 775. The vehicle drove off the left side of the roadway and struck a guardrail.

Daniel L. Jones II was transported to St. Mary’s Medical Center and was pronounced deceased at St. Mary’s Medical Center. The Lawrence County Coroner’s Office was advised. Next of kin has been notified of his passing. Impairment is not suspected to have been a factor in the incident. There are indications that Jones experienced a medical emergency while driving.

The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office and the Lawrence County EMS were on scene to assist with the incident.

This incident remains under investigation.
